Focus on 'Typographic Dialogues: Local-Global'

Typography Day will be organized for the Thirteenth time on 28th, 29th February and 1st March 2020 at Beirut, Lebanon with support from India Design Association (InDeAs) and Aksharaya.
 

The theme for this year's event is 'Typographic Dialogues: Local-Global'

 

The event will feature a day of workshops on Typography and Calligraphy followed by two days of conference dedicated to 'Typographic Dialogues: Local-Global'. The international conference will be devoted to addressing issues faced by type designers, type users and type educators. The conference includes presentations by invited keynote speakers, eminent academicians, blind juried papers, industry professionals, research scholars and students. The event will also host an exhibition of selected posters and typographic works of students and faculty members from Design Institutes.

 

The event is planned over three days:

Day 1: Workshops on Typography + Meet on 'Research in Typography'

Day 2-3 : Conference focusing on 'Typographic Dialogues: Local-Global' + Typo Quiz + Exhibition and Installations and Award ceremony

 Introduction:

The course Expo Info Design is an exposure course on different aspects of presenting and organising information to make communication of information visible, efficient and effective.

The course will cover Information Theory, Ordering of Information, Methods for Structuring and Visualisation of Information, Display of Qualitative Information, Process of Sorting and Categorising Information as well as Introduction to Information Architecture.

The lectures will draw upon examples from a wide variety of application of Information Design that include: Web indexing and organising Menus, Knowledge Visualisation, Sigange and Wayfinding, Maps and Diagrams, Graphic Interfaces and Displays, Interactive Information Applications, etc.

The course is scheduled to have lecture and discussion sessions in the morning followed by workshops on Information Design related creative problem solving sessions in the afternoon

Design Workshop: hands-on sessions
The participants will work on a specific Information Design project, with expert guidance from faculty members. These design solutions will be presented at the end of the session and discussed with faculty members from IDC.

 Introduction:

Good design practice effectively applied, results in innovative, meaningful, ergonomic and appropriate products. In addition, it can result in a highly marketable product with a lasting brand value. This principle has been demonstrated many times by design conscious firms. When logic of good design is practiced and implemented, products capture and sustain consumer demand in a competitive market place.
With the change in economic scenario and opening up of indian economy, competition is from all over the world. Introducing new and innovative products is essential. The products have to be designed to suit the users needs. The products need to be friendly, affordable, appropriate, ecologically sound, and visually pleasing and in addition suited for the competitive global marketplace.

3 Day Workshop:
'Communication Design for IT and Media Professionals'

 Introduction:

The course Expo CD is a refresher course on the finer aspects of Communication Design specifically meant for IT and Media Professionals.

The course will inform the participants about the overall aspects of Communication Design for the Digital Media, a deeper understanding of Communication Graphics, Methods for Structuring and Visualisation of Information as well as exposure to creative processes for solving communication problems.

The subjects covered during the workshop include - Typography for Digital Media, Expressive Typography, Typography for the Web, Information Graphics, Information Visualisation, Communication Graphics, Icon Design, Design Process, Design Methodology, Interactive Design, Identity Design, etc..

The course is scheduled to have lecture and discussion sessions in the morning followed by workshops on Communication Design related creative problem solving sessions in the afternoon

Design Workshop: hands-on sessions
The participants will work on a specific Communication Design project, with expert guidance from faculty members. These design solutions will be presented at the end of the session and discussed with faculty members from IDC.
